Mahmut, früher ein engagierter Fotograf, verdient jetzt seinen Lebensunterhalt mit Aufnahmen für Werbekataloge. Er ist geschieden und hat kaum soziale Kontakte. Eines Tages taucht Yusuf auf, ein Verwandter aus Mahmuts Heimatstadt, die er vor Jahren verlassen hatte. Yusuf ist arbeitslos und will auf einem Schiff anheuern. Bis er einen Job findet, soll er bei Mahmut wohnen.
 
"Weit" ist ein minimalistisches Meisterwerk, ein hervorragend fotografierter Film, eine poetische, stille Beschreibung der Lebenssituation eines jungen Mannes und seiner Freunde. Für diesen Film müsste ein eigenes Genre erfunden werden: er ist eine Art Roadmovie, wobei die Haltestellen immer wieder die eigenen vier Wände sind.
